Does this look familiar?
I can’t tell you how many children I treat that tell me they do their homework lying on their bed!!We want to give our children a good education and we also need to look after their growing musculo – skeletal systems.
It terrifies me what the long term effect will be and makes me sigh with relief that I wont be around to treat this generation of kids when they get older and need osteopathic treatment for their back and posture problems.
They start off sitting in bad chairs at school all day (which we all did-although admittedly the chairs are generally slightly better these days) and then come home and spend hours doing homework on laptops at the dining table, on the sofa or on their beds!
Admittedly, there can be restraints with space in the home, but if it is at all possible, your child needs a desk and a proper typists chair as well as a monitor to plug the laptopinto, or a stand for the laptop to sit on along with a separate keyboard and mouse.
There are some basic rules around sizes and dimensions which need to be customised to the needs of the individual.
But very basically –
Monitor height –high enough to be looking straight at the top 3rd of the screen, unless the student wears glasses
